Harbour Town Vacation Rentals
Harbour Town in The Sea Pines Resort is with out doubt the Island's crown jewel. Its prominently displayed candy striped lighthouse overlooking the Calibogue Sound and the marina has become a world wide recognized symbol. Its hard to imagine it was once coined as the lighthouse that led to no where.
Harbour Town (once spelled Harbourtown) was inspired by Charles Fraser and his Sea Pines Plantation Company. It was to be the piece de resistance for the Sea Pines Plantation development. To this end it has exceeded expectations. It has set the tone for Hilton Head vacation standards. All Hilton Head Island rentals are now measured against The Harbour Town vacation.
In Harbour Town, rental villas surround the Marina, Sea Pines Tennis Center, as well as sections of the Heritage, the prime golf course in Sea Pines. Vacation rental properties are offered in all styles. Whether your vacation rental choice is a secluded bungalow, a marina viewing condominium, town home, villa, or luxurious home, it can be found in Harbour Town.
What is Harbour Town
In the mid sixties, Harbourtown was designed to emulate a Mediterranean marina village with an upscale flair. Great planning was given to the project. Rather than over power the environment, Harbourtown was to blend with the surroundings. Because of environmental concerns, The Liberty Oak still stands. It is under the canopy of its branches that Gregg Russell has been performing his family show for more than three decades.
Today, Harbour Town is still a must. The marina is always filled; you will see some beautiful yachts and sloops tied and moored, some are for charter. Boutique shops and galleries line one side of the marina while vacation villas flank the other side. Rocking chairs are strategically placed offering a great place to relax, sip the coffee or julip, and enjoy wonderful views. There are multiple restaurants and snack bars as well as a general store. The children's playground is an award winner. Another shopping center, The Sea Pines Center, is a ten minute walk.
In the evenings, there is some outstanding entertainment around Harbour Town. Besides Gregg's family show, the old Summer House, in front of the Crazy Crab restaurant, normally has an acoustic entertainer, there may be a steel drum band at the docks of the Quarterdeck, as well as a group inside the Quarterdeck.
One favorite pastime is simply walking around the marina and filling the senses.
Harbour Town Rental Accommodations
The Sea Pines vacation villas flanking the marina have nautical names like Ketch, Cutter, Clipper, and Caravel Court. These villas are in elevator multi storied buildings and are actually condominiums. The unit size ranges from one bedroom to four bedroom. Some of these villas have spectacular views of the Harbour Town Marina and the lighthouse. The above photo was taken from one of the properties.
Behind these condos are town homes as well as more villas. These properties may have golf views of the Heritage and views of the Calibogue Sound. This grouping continues the nautical naming like Harbour South, Mizzenmast, Windjammer, and Genoa. The size of these properties varies from two bedroom condos to six bedroom town homes. On the backside of the marina is a single complex of two to four bedroom units. Schooner Court views the Sound.
Just north of the marina, behind CQs restaurant and the Saddlebag Building is Deer Island. On this spit of land which is bordered by the Calibogue Sound and Stoney Creek are the Sea Lofts. These are octagonal shaped two bedroom elevated bungalows. They look like a mushroom., and view either the Sound, Creek or the woods. If you like a quiet setting surrounded by nature then these are great.
Heading east out of the immediate harbour area you will find villa complexes lining both sides of Lighthouse Road. The first on the left is Stoney Creek. The first section is villas and town homes. The Stoney Creek Villa complex is comprised of one to three bedroom flats and town houses. Past the villas you will find free standing vacation homes. Some of these luxurious Harbour Town homes will face the creek and Deer Island while others view the Sea Marsh golf course.
Adjacent to the Stoney Creek area is the Racquet Club complex. It is the first of the tennis oriented complexes. It is comprised of one, two and three bedroom town home style and flat units with some viewing the lagoons and others the fairways. This complex has its own tennis courts. Just across from the racquet Club units are the Heritage Villas. These units range from two to four bedrooms, some flat style and some town home style.
